How do I connect Bonyan to ChatGPT or another AI assistant?
What you will do
You connect the chat app you use, such as ChatGPT, to your Bonyan account. You can then ask it about your projects and figures, or ask it to do work such as creating a follow-up task. All of it runs with your own account permissions and the access you grant to the connection. The assistant saves nothing in Bonyan unless you ask, and deletion, approval and payment need your approval inside Bonyan for each action.
Before you start
- Your Bonyan account. Each user connects their own account, with their own permissions. There is no shared account or shared password.
- Your company URL. The connection URL belongs to your company and looks like
https://<your-company>.bonyan-erp.com/mcp. Don't type it by hand; copy it from Bonyan as shown in the steps. - ChatGPT in a desktop browser. Adding a custom server depends on your ChatGPT account type and workspace policy. If you can't find it, ask your workspace admin.
- Never type your Bonyan password inside ChatGPT. You sign in on Bonyan's own page, which opens during setup.
Steps
First: copy the connection URL from Bonyan
- Select Settings in the sidebar, then the AI connections tab. You can also open it from your account menu at the top of the page.
- Check that the “MCP service” switch at the top of the tab is “Enabled”.
- Select “Connect step by step” and choose ChatGPT. Only its steps are shown.
- Select “Copy” next to “MCP server URL”.
Second: add Bonyan in ChatGPT
- Open
chatgpt.com/pluginsin your browser, select “+”, then “Add custom MCP server”. - Name it Bonyan, paste the URL into “Server URL”, and choose “OAuth” authentication.
- Review the warning, select “I understand and want to continue”, then “Create as a plugin”.
Button names inside ChatGPT change from time to time. The steps inside Bonyan (“Connect step by step”) are updated first, so follow them if your screen differs.
Third: sign in and allow access
- A Bonyan page opens. Sign in with your company account.
- Choose the permissions: “Full access” (everything your account allows), “View only” when shown, or “Custom” to pick exactly what you want. Then select “Allow access”.
- Go back to ChatGPT. Install Bonyan with “+” from your plugins, open a new “Work” chat, type @ and select Bonyan.
Fourth: try the connection
- Send this request in the chat: “Show my connected Bonyan account and company identity without changing any data.” You can also copy it with “Copy check prompt” in Bonyan.
- Check that the reply names you and the right company. This is the actual test of the connection.
An app other than ChatGPT
“Connect step by step” has ready steps for Claude, Grok, Mistral Vibe, n8n, Claude Code, Codex and Gemini CLI. For any other app that supports MCP: look in its settings for Connectors or MCP Servers, paste the URL, and choose OAuth. Only n8n needs a personal token, which you create from the same guide.
Want to finish on another device? The same guide is published at
https://<your-company>.bonyan-erp.com/mcp-guide, with no sign-in and no token, so you can send it to a colleague.
What changes after you save
- In Bonyan: the connection appears under “Current connections” as “Active”, with the type “OAuth connection”.
- In ChatGPT: it reads your company data and creates what you ask for, within both your permissions and the connection's permissions. If your account can't see salaries, for example, neither can the assistant.
- What needs your approval: if you ask for a deletion, an approval or a payment, the assistant gives you an approval link inside Bonyan. Review the action, then approve or deny it. An approval covers one action and is valid for 30 minutes.
- What stays inside Bonyan only: manual journal entries, closing periods, posting stock moves and approving purchase orders. The assistant points you to the right page instead of doing them.
Reviewing or pausing the connection
Open “Current connections”, then “Manage connection” on your connection. There you find:
- Permissions: narrow or widen them at any time. Changes apply immediately to the same connection, with no new setup.
- Usage history: the tools the assistant used, and each result with its timestamp.
- Pause: stops access immediately and keeps the connection so you can resume it later.
- Delete: removes the connection permanently, with no way back. Bonyan asks you to confirm before pausing or deleting.
Permission you need
You don't need a special permission to connect your account. Every active user opens the AI connections tab from their account menu, even without settings access, and sees only their own connections there.
The company-wide “MCP service” switch can be changed only by the account administrator. Turning it off stops every connection in the company.
If you can't find the button or the connection fails
- No AI connections tab: connections aren't available for your company right now. Contact your company administrator.
- “MCP service” is “Disabled”: ask the account administrator to enable it at the top of the tab. You can create the connection before that, but it won't work until the service is enabled.
- No “Add custom MCP server” in ChatGPT: your account or workspace doesn't allow it. Ask your ChatGPT workspace admin.
- No Bonyan when typing @: install it from your plugins first, then open a new “Work” chat.
- The URL doesn't work: check that you pasted your full company URL ending in
/mcp, and that it starts with https. - “Not allowed” or error 403: open “Manage connection” and review the permissions. If your account doesn't have the permission at all, ask your company administrator for it.
- Asked to sign in again, or error 401: resume the connection if it's paused, or sign in again from inside ChatGPT. A deleted connection needs a new setup.
- “Too many requests” or error 429: wait for the time shown in the message, then send the same request again.
